Torlon PAI · Greenville, SC

Torlon® PAI, read where it is made.

Greenville makes Torlon® PAI base resins and compounds. Polyamide-imide chemistry runs in a liquid phase, and a Raman spectrum reads that liquid in the vessel or line. Inline means the probe sits in the process itself, and Spectrally X1 INLINE returns a process value about every 5 seconds.

One spectrum from the process
What a Raman spectrum of your process carries.
  1. Reaction progressBands of the reacting groups and the aromatic backbone change as the chain builds; the study selects bands clear of the solvent.
  2. Solvent in liquid streamsOrganic solvent is a strong Raman scatterer, so its content in the liquids after the reaction reads directly.
  3. Powder fingerprintBase resin and powder lots checked against their reference spectrum, at-line.
  4. Deviation flagEach spectrum classified against the batch specification, with PASS/FAIL to the DCS.
A pulled sample gives one result per draw. The analyzer returns a reading about every 5 seconds, and your lab methods stay as the reference.

01What Greenville makes

Polyamide-imide for parts that replace metal.

Torlon® compounds go into parts that hold their strength and wear resistance at high temperature. Every one of them starts from the base resin made at Greenville.

02Where it fits

Three kinds of point in a PAI process.

Pressure, temperature and location of each point are checked against the probe rating in the feasibility workshop.

03The lab loop

A batch keeps moving while the sample is in the lab.

A pulled sample describes the batch at the moment it was drawn. Between draws, the batch follows its recipe schedule.

Pulled sample
1result per draw

Draw a sample, prepare it, test it, report. The result describes the moment of the draw.

Spectrally X1 INLINE
~5s per reading

The probe reads where it is placed and sends the values to your DCS. The crew sees the batch as a curve, and the lab keeps its methods as the reference.

Per reading
~5s

From spectrum to a process value. Acquisition time is configurable from 5 to 300 s.

Reagents
0

Routine operation runs without reagents or consumables. Rated laser lifetime is a minimum of two years.

Channels
2

Two measurement points per cabinet as standard, for example the reaction medium and a liquid stream.

To the line
5.5mo

Typical time from the first workshop to a running installation: 3 to 5.5 months.

04Who this is for

Four desks at Greenville use the same number.

Each page of this site answers the question one of them asks first.

Process engineering & control

A chemometric model on your process, checked against your lab.

The feasibility study correlates the Raman spectrum of your process with the lab methods you run, and reports the agreement, the working bands and the validity range.

  • One model per value, logged and versioned
  • Alarm limits and PASS/FAIL set in Spectrally OS
  • Values to the DCS over Modbus

Production & operations

Move a batch on a measured value.

With reaction progress and solvent content on the DCS screen, the crew moves a batch to the next step on a reading, and every shift sees the same curve.

  • Batch progress on the same screen for every shift
  • Checks between lab draws
  • A time-stamped record per batch
Use cases →
Quality

A record behind every lot of resin.

Each batch carries its own composition record, stored with the lot and exportable for the quality file. The lab methods stay as the reference.

  • PASS/FAIL against the batch specification
  • CSV, PDF or raw-spectrum export
  • Fingerprint check of powder lots

Maintenance & capex projects

A probe that mounts on the nozzles you have.

Flange, Tri-Clamp or retractable holder, rated to 16 bar and −40 to +125 °C. Wetted-material compatibility with your solvent and by-products is checked in the feasibility study.

  • Flange DN32/40/50, ANSI 1¼–2″ Class 150 or Tri-Clamp
  • Self-cleaning retract, rinse and return cycle
  • Service by Gekko Photonics Industrial or its technical partner
