Inline Raman · Nitrogen fertilizers & DEF/AdBlue

Read the composition as it flows.

Spectrally™ places a Raman probe directly into your urea, UAN/RSM, and AUS 32 (DEF/AdBlue) process — inline, meaning within the reactor, pipeline, or mixer itself, without sampling. Urea concentration, nitrate, ammonium, biuret, and solution homogeneity are measured continuously, in seconds, with no reagents.

Chemistry
Urea · UAN/RSM · DEF/AdBlue · biuret

Urea, ammonium nitrate, and the unwanted biuret by-product in aqueous nitrogen fertilizers and AUS 32 (DEF/AdBlue).

Master variable
Urea concentration

The main component of both UAN/RSM and DEF — measured in real time rather than inferred after the batch.

Reference technique
Raman spectroscopy

The core of the Spectrally platform, and strongly effective inline in water because water is a weak Raman scatterer.

Where it sits
In the line, 24/7

Immersion probe in the reactor, pipeline, or mixer, feeding your PLC / DCS continuously.

02 The gap you know too well

The line does not wait for the lab.

Refractometry provides answers in 2 to 3 minutes but reads only total dissolved solids — it cannot separate urea from ammonium nitrate and never detects biuret. The methods that can are slow: Kjeldahl total nitrogen takes 60 to 90 minutes, biuret by GC takes 40 to 60. By then, the blend or batch has moved on.

Offline lab loop
40-90min

Sample, walk to the lab, run Kjeldahl, GC, or titration, wait, report. A deviation in urea concentration or total nitrogen (%N) only surfaces as an off-spec blend at your customer — after the product has shipped. Off-spec DEF misses the ISO 22241 window, and the liability falls on the producer.

Spectrally inline
< 5s

The probe reads the reactor, pipeline, or mixer continuously and streams urea, nitrate, ammonium, and biuret data to your control system. The deviation is detected while you can still correct it — so offline methods become verification, not the bottleneck.

Your next step

Put it on your line — starting with your own samples.

Send representative samples or process data from your urea, UAN/RSM, DEF/AdBlue, or ATS stream. We build and validate a chemometric model on your matrix and show you exactly what inline Raman would read on your line — before any commitment. Your feasibility study returns the exact figures for your material, modeled and validated on your own samples.
